WELCOME TO THE CALEDONIA AREA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

2024-2025 Parent/Student Handbook

Dear Families,

At Caledonia Area Elementary, we believe that every child is unique and has the potential to achieve greatness. We are committed to provide a safe, inclusive, and engaging educational experience that promotes academic excellence, personal growth, and a lifelong love of learning. We are committed to working collaboratively with families, teachers, and the community to support the development and success of each student.

This Parent/Student Handbook is designed to be a comprehensive guide to our school’s policies, procedures, and programs. Inside, you will find important information about our curriculum, attendance policies, code of conduct, health and safety guidelines, and much more. It is our goal to ensure that you are well-informed and equipped to support your child’s educational journey.

Communication is key to a successful school experience. We encourage you to stay connected with us through our school website, newsletters, and regular updates. Your involvement and partnership are crucial in making this year a positive and productive one for your child.

Together, we will create a school environment where students feel valued, motivated, and empowered to reach their full potential.

John Wahlstrom

Response to Intervention (RTI)

RTI

Response to Intervention (RTI) is a method of using interventions to diminish learning gaps for students. RTI consists of three tiers of intervention. Tier One is the classroom where teachers are expected to base instruction on standards and differentiate to meet the needs of every learner. Tier Two instruction consists of extra time and more specific interventions led by our ADSIS and Title teachers. Tier Three instruction is more intensive interventions delivered in smaller groups. This method of instruction is used in both academic and behavioral learning. Please see the attached documents for a clearer picture of how this instruction is organized in the Caledonia Area Elementary School.

We have teams of teachers and teacher candidates working together to personalize the teaching experience. Our 21st Century physical environment throughout our schools supports students with unique learning experiences that are hands-on and appropriately challenging. By partnering with WSU, we add professional development experiences, smaller student to teacher ratios, and rigor to our teaching and learning practices.

During our 2022-2023 School Year we had 3 wonderful student teachers!
Greta Hanson joined us from UWL, Kailee Olerud from WSU, and Abi Check from UWL.
They all taught under our kindergarten staff at CAE and we’re so thankful for all that they brought to the classroom!
